Christmas Eve is full of anticipation. And for me, it’s a time of peace. A day of reflection and preparation. I want for my children to recognize and celebrate the importance of giving. They’re so young, and filled to the top with excitement. Little hearts that love to give but also anxiously wait for gifts of their own.

We purposely focused on preparation. On giving, taking turns, serving. Creating a beautiful table  and a Christmas morning treat. They collected eggs and greenery, decorated, baked, sang at a Christmas Eve service, and left cookies by the candle lit fire-place. They focused on what they could give and enjoyed the company of one another.

My deepest desire is for them to learn the joy in giving.
